Global Migrant Health Summit, adopted New York Declaration

Global Migrants Health Summit was held successfully in New York during Sept 26-27 and I express heartly appreciations to all who peovided support for its success. Organized by Protecting Health of Migrants, Immigrants and Refugees - Phomir together with seveal partner, the Summit commeced with the scientific presentation from several scholars and reseachers from Canada, Central America, Nepal, Australia, United States on topics related to health of migrants and refugees. “Walk for Migrants Health" was another highlighted event at the Health Summit that was held at Rockerfeller Center, New York City where the gathered people supported the cause of promoting univershal Health care coverage among migrants. A Health Screening camp was held in Queens of New York. A large number of migrants received health screening at the camp where expert nurses from Nepalese American Nurses Association (NANA) provided physical and mental health scceening. At the Summit ceremony held following the health camp the invited guests expressed the need of univershal health services for migrants.

 

Cultural performance by children at the ceremony in cultural dresses was spectacular! Community Services Award was presented to three organizations that have been engaged for decades in providing services to migrant population: NANA, Himalayan Restaurant, New York and GPKF. The program  book for the Summit titled "Migrant Health Matters" was released at the summit. New York Declaration on Migrants Health was adopted at the Summit. Th declaration was handed to the representatives of United Nations International Organization of IOM - UN Migration. Partner organizations that supported  the Health Summit include STARS Scholars Network, NANA, Helping Hands Without Border Canada (HHWBC), Association of Nepalese Physician in America (ANPA), non-Resident Nepali Association National Coordination Council USA (NRNA-NCC USA), Girija Prasad Koirala American Chapter (GPKF). 


Dr. Anuj Kandel, Dr. Binod Shah, Mr. Bikash Upreti, Mr. Arjun Bahadur Shrestha, Mr. Khagendra GC, Mr. Netra Bandhu Pokharel and their organizations provided funding and sponsorship for the Summit. During the Summit. 


The Health Summit was organized in concurrence with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York to encourange the participants of UNGA to attend its events and programs. The Health Summit also supported the Music Concert that was held in New York cuncurrently that was organized by Global Citizen to promote health for all, peace, justice and huminitarian actions across the world. Renouned music performers Camilo, Cardi B, Shakira, sang at the concert and actor Idris Elba  spoke on the value of humanitarian cause.
