Dr. Sanjeeb Sapkota is a medical epidemiologist and a leading voice for the health and wellbeing for migrants around the world. 

e served as the Chairperson of the Global Nepali Health Committee under the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), where he led initiatives to improve health systems and mobilize medical resources for Nepalis worldwide. He had also held the prestigious role of President of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), guiding a global network of future health leaders.

Prof. Syed Shajee Hussain, United Kingdom

Dr. Syed Shajee Hussain is currently serving as the senior faculty in Public Health in Anglia Ruskin University, United Kingdom. Dr. Syed is a medical doctor by training and holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Kuopio, Finland. Prof Syed has experience in teaching and learning across Asia and Europe. He has worked in his home country Pakistan, and in the University Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia, where he worked for seven years. During his tenure in Malaysia, he was involved in establishing degree programmes for undergraduates and postgraduates. His work also involved conducting health promotion projects at the grass root level, especially for the underprivileged and rural communities. His antecedents include teaching and managing the project with Aga Khan University Pakistan and John Hopkins University, USA. Prof Syed has published research articles in Non-Communicable Diseases, Communicable Diseases, Environmental Health, and Health Economics. Protecting Health of Migrants, Immigrants and Refugees (PHOMIR) is proud to have him in our team. 

Dr. Khagendra Chapagain, Costa Rica

Dr. Khagendra Chapagain is a highly respected physician based in Costa Rica, renowned for his dedication to improving healthcare access and outcomes.

 

With extensive clinical experience and a compassionate approach, he has made significant contributions to the medical community both locally and internationally. Active in numerous health initiatives and organizations, Dr. Chapagain works tirelessly to promote health equity and address disparities in healthcare services.

 

As the President of the Health for All Foundation, he leads efforts to deliver quality healthcare to underserved populations, advocating for policy reforms and community-based solutions. His leadership, vision, and commitment have earned him widespread recognition and respect. Dr. Chapagain’s work centers on fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainable health practices, making a meaningful impact on countless lives.

PHOMIR is proud to have him as a member, benefiting from his expertise and inspiring leadership in advocacy for accessible healthcare.

Professor Dr. Shiva Shrestha is a renowned pediatrician, social worker who has been the senior vice-president of Nepal Medical Association. He was the advisor to the Health Committee of non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).

 

He has received several awards for his social and voluntary work. During the pandemic he lead health hotline to provide life saving health guidance to parents on how to care of children infected with the corona virus. He has written numerous guidelines, scietific papers and techincal manuals on healthcare for children. Speaking via numerous seminars he has been providing health consultations to general public. Sharing his expertise and technical advise to the government of Nepal on matters of child health has earned him widespread popularity.

 

He is a renowned advocate for the health and wellbeing of migrants workers. He has been vocal about univeshal health coverage for migrants workers. 

Prof Dr. Shiva Shrestha, Nepal

Uttam Gaulee, Ph.D., is the professor at Morgan State University, United States, in its department of advanced studies, leadership and policy.

 

Dr. Gaulee has a deep understanding of the health needs of migrants and immigrants in the United States and around the world. He has moderated sessions at Global Health Conferences aimed at health and wellbeing on migrants. 

Dr. Gaulee serves as president of the Society of Transnational Academic Researchers (STAR Scholar Network), a member-supported grassroots organization building communities that support the advancement of scholars working across borders.

 

The STAR Scholars network has been contributing to quality enhancement initiatives in universities in the global south.

Dr. Poudel has been actively engaged in the advocacy of health of migrants. He has been the co-chair of the Global Health Committee of non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and has helped organized several health Summit and conferences.

 

He has traveled to Australia, UK and USA to participate and make presentations at the scientific programs. He has provided technical guidance to help improve the health of migrants working in the middle east and other countries around the world.

Dr. Devi B. Basnet, South Korea

Dr. Devi B. Basnet is a seasoned Senior Research Scientist at Medytox and a Board of Director at
the Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (RIBB). With over 15 years of experience in
biopharmaceutical sector, Dr. Basnet has a strong background in molecular and cellular biology,
antibody therapeutics, and secondary metabolite biosynthesis. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry
from Sun Moon University, South Korea, and has contributed significantly to the field through
various research publications. He has authored multiple research papers and holds patents related
to antibody development and biosynthesis methods.


Dr. Devi B. Basnet has demonstrated exceptional leadership on an international scale through
various roles and initiatives.  Dr. Basnet’s involvement with the Non-resident Nepalese
Association (NRNA) and the Society of Nepalese Students in Korea (SONSIK) highlights a
commitment to supporting and leading the Nepalese community abroad.

​​​Abdul Bari Hassan is a dedicated migrant and refugee advocate whose personal journey reflects resilience and perseverance. As a student in Ukraine, Abdul Bari found himself thrust into a challenging new reality when Russian forces attacked the country, forcing him to become a refugee overnight.

 

His journey took him from Ukraine to Poland, then through Hungary and Germany, eventually reaching Portugal, where he currently resides. Throughout his experiences, Abdul Bari has gained profound insights into the issues faced by migrants and refugees, especially concerning health and well-being.

 

His firsthand knowledge and unwavering commitment make him a valuable member of PHOMIR, an organization committed to supporting displaced populations. We are delighted to welcome Abdul Bari Hassan to our community.​​​​​​​​
